Plant Nursery Agricultural Internship Opportunity

PADK’s mission: To work with the residents of the Kadey Eastern Province of Cameroon (West Africa) to promote improved self-sufficiency and health and well-being in the region.
In 2021, PADK launched the Tropical Agriculture Research & Training Station to assist local farmers rebuild the economy and improve health and well-being through regenerative farming.
PADK is seeking students in an internship capacity. Eligible students must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma or certificate) from a qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis.
Applicants must have completed at least one year of post high school education and meet all requirements in the job announcement. Work schedules are flexible.
Internship Duties
The Plant Nursery Ag Intern is open to students with interest in watershed ecology, fisheries biology, botany, and ecological restoration. You must have experience in native (and exotic) plant identification and biology, nursery operations and horticultural practices, ability to work outside in varying terrain and weather, and strong written and verbal communication skills to be considered for this position. As an intern, you will be responsible for
- Seed cleaning/processing, seed germination, plant propagation, transplanting, irrigation, updating inventory stock, managing plant database, data collection and entry, nursery facilities upkeep.
- The intern will be expected to choose one test cash crop to be the focus of their internship, and take a leadership role in installation and maintenance of a pilot project.

Internship Duties
Interns will serve as a trainee observing, learning, and assisting others in performing a variety of tasks to gain experience and technical competence in the methods, procedures, principles, theories, and techniques used in regenerative land management and agriculture. Assignments typically include such work as providing information to the public;
- By assisting in activities that lead to higher yields of better quality cash crops and in a way that will bring buyers and increase economic activity to the region, and help promote best and regenerative farming practices to increase the yields of cash crops through demonstrations & workshops.
- Conducting research to better understand local historical agriculture practices, the current strengths and opportunities of local agriculture activities and how to combine the two for improved outcomes
